My work in Hamilton College’s 2022 studio art thesis exhibition Closing Remarks at the Wellin Museum.
This body of work captures interiors from two spaces, my home and my grandparents’ home in Vermont. Each piece represents a moment in time as expressed through light, but comes from years of existing within, and contemplative looking at, these spaces that I love. I play with light and windows as the paintings’ subjects, and treat the objects as stand-ins for figures. Working with the process of oil painting, layer by layer, echoes the work that my family has put into the spaces to make them homes.
The works of Lois Dodd, David Hockney, and John Koch, inspired me throughout this series.
