Satchel received an Emerson Grant from Hamilton College for the summer of 2020.
With her grant, Satchel explored the diversification of Vermont family farms in Addison County.
Agriculture is central to Vermont’s landscape, but farms are struggling to remain afloat. This project features four farms from Addison County, Vermont - two dairy farms, an apple orchard, and a hemp farm - which are diversifying in exciting ways to try to preserve Vermont’s agricultural landscape and their way of life. Satchel documented their stories through short written narratives, oil and gouache paintings, linoleum and silkscreen prints.
Satchel, Zeyan Tang, and Sarah Ferdinand displayed their summer research projects in a group exhibition Moving Landscapes in Hamilton’s Linda Johnson Gallery at the Kennedy Center for the Arts.
